I couldn't ask for a more positive experience

I had to take a moment to say THANK YOU to Camp Kirk for making a difference in the life of my 11-yr-old son Jack!!

This summer Jack went away for the first time to Camp Kirk and had an incredible time. He returned home with such confidence and joy and said that he can’t wait to go back next year.

This is a day I never thought would come as Jack was sick most of his life because he suffered from a severe form of epilepsy.

In 2010, he underwent three neurosurgeries at SickKids and had a significant portion of his brain removed. Incredibly, his seizures stopped and his long road to recovery included relearning how to walk and talk.

When Jack expressed interest in attending camp this year, I was more nervous than him!! I still watch him like a hawk with his medication schedule but wanted him to encourage him to build his confidence and independence.

After hearing about Camp Kirk, I was amazed that the camp director came to our home for a visit to show camp pictures and give Jack examples about what life at camp is life. Jack confirmed right then and there that he wanted to go for 2 weeks this summer!

When I dropped him off he was greeted by Henry, the resident dog, who was welcoming children as they arrived. Jack had a big smile on his face and ran to his cabin where he met his counsellors.

During camp Jack went rock climbing, joined the fishing club and even went zip lining! I can't believe it!

I couldn't ask for a more positive experience for him and I am so proud of him for having the courage and determination to want to do this on his own this year.

Thank you CAMP KIRK for inspiring Jack to try this!!
